Deactivate Facebook Account Permanently
You can deactivate an account and then later on reactivate it. While it's shut off, people can't see your timeline or look for you, though some information, such as messages you sent out, may still be visible.
If you remove your account, it's gone for life as well as can not be reactivated. Facebook says that they "hold-up removal a couple of days after it's asked for" and that a deletion request is canceled if you log back into your account throughout that period. They better state that it can take up to 90 days to erase data kept in backup systems.
